Jim Poe is a native of Muskegon, Michigan and holds a BSME from the University of Michigan, and an MBA from Michigan State University. He retired from a career with the Ford Motor Co. as Executive Director of the North American Engine Operations. Having played the bassoon for 35 years, he has performed in numerous civic symphonies and small groups throughout Michigan and Indiana. He is currently principal bassoonist for the Livonia Symphony Orchestra (MI). Poe studied bassoon reed making with numerous professionals and has written a reed manual based upon his techniques. He has taught reed making at university workshops throughout the country and at the Glickman Popkin Bassoon Camp.
